Before The Survey
Confirm the asset type, coating age, coating specification, previous inspection records, warranty details, access constraints, safety requirements, and any known problem areas.
Where possible, gather drawings, maintenance records, paint data sheets, previous DFT readings, and photographs of defects.
During The Survey
Record coating defects, corrosion staining, blistering, cracking, flaking, delamination, mechanical damage, contamination, exposed steel, and areas of suspected section loss.
Agree whether the survey needs visual inspection only or additional testing such as DFT readings, adhesion testing, soluble salt testing, ultrasonic thickness readings, or sampling.
What The Report Should Include
A useful report should include the inspection scope, method, site conditions, defect schedule, photographs, severity ratings, likely causes, maintenance priorities, and recommended next actions.
For high-value assets, the report should be structured so it can support budget planning, contractor scopes, warranty discussions, or repair specifications.
